Dr Ian Summerscales BA, MA, MLitt, EdD, PGCE

Senior Lecturer in Post-compulsory Education

After a number of years of pastoral work - largely in inner-city, multi-faith contexts - as a Methodist minister, I moved into formal educational work and taught in Further Education for thirteen years and was  largely involved in teacher education for those working in that sector as well as wider training contexts. Currently my main interest is the philosophy of education, particularly relating phenomenological insights to the practice and theory of teaching and the development of attentive educational practice. Other interests and writing include spirituality and education, Deleuze studies, actor network theory and the formation of doctoral identity. I am co-leader of the EdD programme here at Oxford Brookes.
